Small Shared Apartment Closet + Organization
We live in a 2 bedroom rental that has no closets whats so ever. The only closets we have in our apartment are the one closet in each bedroom and the tiny linen closet in the bathroom. Our apartment has the access to the attic so that's where we are able to store seasonal stuff and anything that we do not use on the daily.
The kids have the bigger room which has a slightly bigger closet then the one my husband and I share. Now you know when you have a rental there are things that you are not allowed to do such as putting holes in the walls or changing anything that the landlord did not agree on. So when trying to figure out how I could utilize my space I had to kinda think out the box for a moment. My closet literally only has a hanging bar and one long shelf across. Above that shelf was so much wasted space and although it went up higher where I would need a step stool (short people problems) I still wanted to make it work.
My goal with my closet was to make it look nice. Every girl dreams of a walk in closet with tons of beautiful shoe shelves and space for their bag collections etc. Well a girl could dream and maybe just some day I will get the closet of my dreams. Until then this is how I organize my closet to make it work for my small space and to also make it appealing to me.
I already had these stack able shoe shelves (similar option here) that I had purchased a few years ago. I put one of the show shelves on the bottom and one on top of the shelf that was above the bar to hang your clothes on. Both shoe shelves have adjustable shelves that you can adjust according to the height of your shoes. So what I did I used the very top shelf to store my bags that are in there duster bags and to also hold my winter Ugg boots that I keep in its original box. Anything after that holds my heels and dressy flats.
Now the shelf on the bottom holds more shoes. I have an obsession with shoes but have no where to go with them. lol Anyway the top shelf holds these two organizers that I picked up at Walmart for under $4.00 (only in stores). I have folded tees and long sleeves in one and I have winter accessories and hats in the next. Then I use the other shelves for all my sneakers and current boots. I choose neutral color organizers and hangers to make it more applying to the eye. I like to keep it clean and simple especially for a small space. My grey felt hangers are from T.J. Maxx and they come in tons of colors.I also semi color coded my clothes which makes it so much easier when looking for something to wear.
My new rule is when ever I buy anything new something has to go especially if I haven't worn it in a while. I absolutely love how simple and organized my closest looks for being so small and having to share it. Now my husbands side is a whole different story.
Of course my closet isn't glamorous but lets be real how can you make a tiny closet look all glamorous?!? My set up works for me and it gives me all the feels to get ready and dress up even if its my daily mom uniform of leggings and a tee.
