How we visited The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for FREE

A few weeks ago we visited

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in NYC

. We have been wanting to visit for a while now but haven't visited because it can be pricey when traveling from NJ. Just getting into the city is expensive between gas, tolls and the cost of the bridge. Not to mention paying for parking as well. So because we live on a budget I am always trying to find the best deals.

When I found this amazing deal I was a little hesitant in the sense that I could not believe it was

FREE

. Not having to pay for the admission for a party of 4 was AWESOME!!! So your probably wondering well how can you get FREE admission to The Intrepid, Sea, Air & Space Museum too. Well believe it or not you can get free admission if you have a Library Card!! Now of course your library has to be participating in the Library Museum Program. I have called a few here in NJ to double check and most of the libraries in my surrounding area are participants.

|How it Works|

1.

You need a Library Card to the Adult Library. You can NOT use a Child Library Card.

2.

Call your Library to check if they participate in the Museum Program or

3.

You can check online by just going to your local Public Library's website and scroll to find the Museum Program icon.

4.

Ask what Museums are participating and if the ticket is available to check out.

5.

If you check online you can see the participating Museums and also see if the ticket is available.

6.

You are basically checking out a ticket as you would check out a book. You are only allow to check out for 5 days so plan accordingly.

This is such an amazing program to take advantage of especially if your on a budget. Its a great way to explore new places with the kids during the summer break as well. It was super easy to use the membership. When I showed the membership ticket at the Intrepid they also asked to see my library card to compare the library name on both cards to make sure they match. We were able to get

FREE

admission but it did not include any of the extra exhibits which was ok with us. It was our first time visiting minus my husband he has been there a few times when he was younger.

The kids loved it and were so interested and amazed with all the museum had to offer. I love seeing their reaction to new places. They loved it so much that when we got home they pulled out all their planes and started playing with them. What made the trip to the museum more enjoyable was that there was barely anyone there. I for sure thought it would be packed because it was a Sunday but nope it was empty. Normally I get anxious with large crowds and not really letting the kids explore but it was nice to let them walk with out having a death grip on them. lol

I also had packed some snacks and water for us so before heading home we walked to the end of the pier to sit and let the kids have their snacks while we just enjoyed the view. Packing a snack is another great way to stay on budget not spend crazy money on a bottle of water or pretzel. Everyone thinks that you have to spend tons of money to have fun and enjoy things but in all honesty you don't have to spend a lot of money. With some research and patience you can find some amazing deals. You can check out one of my older post

Here

for some Cheap & Free Fun Summer Activities to keep the kids busy and also not spend a ton of money. We definitely would love to go back because the kids really enjoyed it and I will definitely be taking advantage of this awesome program again.

Have you visited

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in NYC

?

Well if you haven't I recommend you put it on your list to do with the kids. It really is a nice little day trip. Don't forget to call your public library to check if they participate in the Museum Program.
